The FOUND:RE Phoenix Hotel is excited to present its First Friday Performance Night on April 2. Three unique performances by Phoenix-based artists will take place throughout the evening from 6:00 p.m. to 9:00 p.m. including:
“Healing the Deep” by Katharine Leigh Simpson — From 6:00 p.m. to 9:00 p.m., multidisciplinary artist Katharine Leigh Simpson, whose work expresses the delicate beauty of impermanence, invites viewers to participate in her interactive performance in which she uses paper and organic materials to create energetic depictions of spirits present in nature. Her performance serves to celebrate rebirth and the everlasting spirit, and through transference of energy, from death back into life, echoes the mystery of creation while simultaneously allowing participants to participate in the process.
“The Quest to Make People Feel Whole Again” by SoSco Flute & Guitar Duo — From 7:30 p.m. to 8:00 p.m., guests can enjoy the exquisite sound, outstanding musicianship and inspiring performances of SoSco Flute & Guitar Duo (featuring Laura Strickland, flute and Alex Mack, guitar). Known for their sensitive interpretations and polished presentation, the SoSco Duo has distinguished itself as one of Arizona’s preeminent small ensembles. Following the program theme, the Duo presents soulful original compositions, weaving together the musicianship of Laura and Alex as both creators and performers as well as their musical passions and artistry.
“Invitation to Connect” by Diana Calderon — From 8:00 p.m. to 9:00 p.m. Chihuahua, Mexico-born, Phoenix-based interdisciplinary artist Diana Calderon, whose artwork investigates her ancestral roots and journey as an immigrant, presents an audience-interactive performance that investigates disconnection and connection. Guests are invited to connect or serve as a “connectee” — and become a part of the art. As Calderon stands still behind a transparent glass wall with her left-hand resting on the glass and her right handing hold a pencil, she initiates connection and allows the participant to either accept or decline. Once a connection is made and without distractions, Calderon draws a section of the face of the “connectee” directly on the glass wall to document the connection.
Performances will take place in Gallery 1 and 2 of the FOUND:RE Phoenix Hotel. For more, visit www.foundrehotels.com.
