On Thursday, Nov. 14, the Scottsdale Gallery Association (SGA) presents its Reflections-themed Gold Palette ArtWalk. The event mirrors the theme of this year’s Canal Convergence which bears the same name. This is the second year that the SGA is partnering with Canal Convergence for this aligned art experience taking place in and around the Scottsdale Waterfront and canal. The SGA Gold Palette ArtWalk takes place from 6:30-9 p.m. throughout the Scottsdale Arts District — along Main St. from Scottsdale Rd. to Goldwater Blvd. and north of Indian School Rd. on Marshall Way to 5th Ave. “We are grateful for the ongoing partnership with Canal Convergence because it is truly the perfect marriage of art supporting art,” says SGA President Jinger Richardson. “We are thrilled to continue this partnership in support of incredible local art and look forward to welcoming our regular guests as well as those who have yet to experience a Gold Palette ArtWalk or Canal Convergence.” Presented by Scottsdale Arts, Canal Convergence 2024 invites guests to explore artworks that challenge perceptions and reveal new insights through the theme of Reflections. Canal Convergence is an entirely outdoor immersive event that transforms the Scottsdale Waterfront into an illuminated, open-air art gallery. This year’s event features large-scale, light-based artworks as well as educational workshops, family-friendly activities, art and history tours, live music at the Herberger Stage, dance performances, a two-night mini film festival, a beer and wine garden, the return of the One Water Brewing Showcase beer-tasting event, food trucks and more. The Reflections-themed Gold Palette ArtWalk serves as the kickoff to the Scottsdale Gallery Association’s 2024-2025 season, which will lead into the Scottsdale Galley Association’s 50th anniversary in April 2025. During the Reflections-themed Gold Palette ArtWalk, the following SGA member galleries are hosting their own themed receptions and exhibitions aligned with the 2024 Canal Convergence: Altamira Fine Art 7038 E. Main St. During the event, Altamira will be showcasing Native American and Hispanic artist John Nieto’s works. The gallery is pleased to once again represent the works of Nieto, who is widely regarded as one of America’s most accomplished, dynamic and exciting contemporary artists. Nieto’s distinctive style — a combination of subject matter, expressionist technique and use of strong color — is instantly recognizable. He has produced bronze sculptures, etchings, lithographs and silk-screen prints in addition to drawings in pastel crayons and charcoal. In the last several years, he has devoted his time almost exclusively to painting. Bonner David Scottsdale 7040 E. Main St. During the ArtWalk, Bonner David Scottsdale presents an opening reception of Luminosity, featuring new works from artists Francis Livingston and Robert LaDuke. With their distinctive palettes and unique perspectives, these traditional artists showcase their nostalgic viewpoints in their latest exhibition. Livingston, known for his thick, rich colors, captures light as it gloriously frames his noted buildings, bridges and boats. LaDuke takes viewers back in time to witness his classic cars, planes and locomotives as they punctuate landmark vintage buildings. Luminosity will be on display from Thursday, Nov. 7 through Read more [...]

LDV Winery Tasting Room Presents Pie and Wine Pairing Weekend NOV. 23-24
Fall is here and the end-of-year holidays are rapidly approaching. With that in mind, LDV Winery Tasting Room invites wine lovers to slow down and savor the flavors of the season — through wine and pie! On Saturday, Nov. 23 and Sunday, Nov. 24, the Pie and Wine special will be offered so guests can get a taste of the holidays and learn how specific wine and pie flavors complement one another. Pairings include: Pumpkin Pie and Chardonnay or Viognier Pumpkin pie is a staple for fall and pumpkin spice flavoring has taken on a life of its own. This humble classic, which often appears at Thanksgiving feasts, pairs ideally with a crisp, fruity chardonnay. Pecan Pie and Pinot Noir or Grenache The complex layers and savory nature of pinot noir is the perfect accompaniment to a slice of rich, nutty pecan pie. A cabernet sauvignon would be a nice complement to this dessert as well. Apple Pie and Riesling Whether choosing a dry or sweet Riesling, its acidity can cut through the richness of apple pie while its white grape flavors complement the sweet-yet-tart apples of this pie. Sauternes and Moscato d’Asti are also fine pairings for apple pie. Sweet Potato Pie and Syrah or Red Wine Pair a slice of sweet potato pie with a light- to medium-bodied dry red wine, which can enhance its complexity. A light pinot noir, with notes of herbs, spice and cherries or currants would be an excellent choice. The Pie and Wine pairing includes a glass of wine and a slice of pie for $15, plus tax and gratuity. LDV Winery’s Peggy Fiandaca is available to discuss and demonstrate these pie and wine pairings for television segments, during which she can also showcase award-winning LDV wines.
