A Chop, Bourbon and Some Cristal…
The Dish: Double Cut Dry Age Pork Chop
The Place: Bourbon & Bones
The Location: Old Town Scottsdale, Scottsdale Road
The old Alpha Graphics building stood on Scottsdale road for years. I remember looking at it every time I drove past thinking “when will someone buy this and turn it into a great spot and extend restaurant row more south.” Well it finally happened and we love what it’s turned into…Bourbon & Bones, a modern upscale steak house in the heart of old town Scottsdale. The decor is an awesome wood, rustic repurposed style with pocket windows in the bar area that open up onto Scottsdale road. The decor is so comforting and inviting, it makes for a place you just want to camp out, enjoy and do a little people watching. One of the many things we fell in love with was the bacon in a mason jar you get when sitting int he bar area. Forget about breadsticks!
J Amundson recently took over as head chef making us excited to get in again sometime soon to see what stamp he’s putting on his bones. When we were there a few months back it was recommended we try the dry aged pork chop . We were told we wouldn’t be able to distinguish it from a really good filet, so of course we had to order it! Before the dish came out, one of the little things we enjoyed was having a box of steak knives presented to us at the table where we were able to select the knife that best fit our personality! I chose the badass red handle knife in case you were wondering. This chop was so flavorful and tender it made you wonder how on earth it was possible to prepare a pork chop this way. Every bite had an associated moan and smile of delight. You can’t have the chop as a stand alone dish and you can’t go wrong with their truffled lobster mac n cheese, country mashed potatoes, or heck, anything else on the menu! Or as an appetizer, make sure you try the Bacon & Eggs slow braised pork belly, quail eggs, maple bourbon, and hash browns! Seriously?!?!
Never truly being a bourbon guy myself, B&B has an extensive selection of 75+ high-end bourbons. If you’re a bourbon cone-sour, you owe it to yourself to get in and get a few sips!
