Mexican food is a favorite in Arizona, and there are many restaurants to choose from in the Valley, from regional specialties to fast food to gourmet tacos. There is a new organic option for Mexican cuisine in Scottsdale that appeals to a variety of tastes and dietary preferences.

Tocaya Organica introduced its fast casual, modern organic Mexican concept to Valley diners in November with its first Arizona location at Kierland Commons in Scottsdale. Tocaya Organica launched in 2016 and has several locations across Southern California. The Los Angeles-based Madera Group founded Tocaya Organica with a mission to inspire better eating.

“We are so excited to bring the Tocaya Organica concept to Arizona,” said Tosh Berman, CEO and co-founder of the Madera Group. “Healthy economic growth and favorable business conditions are one thing, but we also feel that Scottsdale really embodies the spirit of Tocaya Organica. It’s a beautiful city that prides itself on health and wellness, and cares about quality food and experiences. Tocaya Organica is not just a restaurant, it’s a way of life; a movement not just towards healthy, better eating, but wholesome living, which aligns perfectly with the Scottsdale vibe and lifestyle.”

Tocaya Organica’s Kierland location offers an open floorplan and kitchen with a 65-seat indoor dining area, and an 85-seat patio and outdoor dining space. Tocaya is open daily for lunch and dinner.

Tocaya’s versatile menu highlights natural and sustainable ingredients in traditional Mexican recipes with something for everyone, including vegan, vegetarian and gluten-free alternatives for salads, bowls, tacos and burritos.

Diners can choose from salads, bowls, tacos and burritos, selecting one protein and one queso (cheese) for their dish. Protein options include orange spice Achiote chicken, carne asada, chipotle-rubbed halibut, chicken Tinga, turkey picante, adobo tofu and a vegan picadillo mix of pea-based protein and fresh vegetables. Queso options include queso fresco, jalapeno jack, vegan mozzarella and vegan chipotle jack.

Side dishes include vegan and gluten-free chips and salsa, guacamole served with house-made plantain chips, street corn and vegan bacon. For dessert, diners can enjoy a churro waffle ice cream sandwich made with vegan ice cream.

The seasonal menu includes diablo cauliflower, roasted and tossed in Tocaya’s signature buffalo sauce, and a Keto bowl with Spanish-style cauliflower rice, sautéed peppers, roasted Brussels sprouts, avocado and arbol salsa.

In addition to margaritas, beer and wine, Tocaya’s beverage options include specialty coffee and juices. Iced tea and aqua fresca selections include coconut ginger green tea, cucumber mint limeaid and strawberry basil limeaid.

If you are looking for a different take on Mexican cuisine with a lot of fresh and organic options, Tocaya Organica will satisfy your cravings with bright flavors and choices to meet a variety of tastes.
You will have the opportunity to sample Tocaya Organica’s fresh Mexican fare as one of several vendors at Taste About Scottsdale at Kierland Commons on January 26. Get tickets here www.AZFoodandWine.com/TasteAbout-Scottsdale/.
